Make Your Own Home First Aid Kit

Being prepared for emergencies will require us to have some sort of first aid kit at home. We can buy one of those official kits at the store, but we can also roll our own.

Here’s the list:

  • Acetaminophen, ibuprofen, and aspirin
  • Cough syrup
  • Antihistamine such as Benadryl
  • Decongestants
  • An oral medicine syringe for giving medicine to children
  • Diarrhea medication
  • Heartburn medication
  • Medicine for motion sickness
  • Bandages
    • 2×2 gauze pads
    • 4×4 gauze pads
    • 2-inch elastic wrap
    • rolled gauze
    • adhesive bandages, various sizes
    • cotton swabs
    • bandage closures or safety pins
  • Scissors with rounded tips
  • Tweezers
  • Antiseptic wipes
  • Antibiotic ointment
  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Instant-activating cold packs
  • Instant heat packs

You could store these in the medicine cabinet, or a small plastic box. I suggest putting the oral medicines in a zip bag, to prevent them from being contaminated. And yes, check out the expiry dates once a month, and re-stock accordingly.
